Bear Witness: Part II

It had been two whole years. Just us. And the bear. Every now and then, she would talk, but she doesn't talk that often. The bear's name is Crisp. We do small little things to keep strange animals in the forest safe. "There is a big problem." She said one day. "Hm?" I asked "Well

Do you remember when I recruited you two years ago?” She said “yes” I confirmed. “Well, truth is Crisp has a problem, he needs help, his cubs are being held captive by a bear Hunter and that thieve in your house was one of his minions, too sad he died from a heart attack!”

I breathed a sigh of relief that the thief was no more. That dude was so creepy, stealing my laptop for no reason. "So how do we save Crisp the bear's cubs from the bear hunter?" I asked her. She sighed. "In order to save them, we'll have to face the hunter head-on at his lair.

We set out for the old wooden fort at the peak of the hill nearby. Fortunately, the mist that came at dusk shrouded us. We prepared to enter. She readied her bow and I readied my shotgun. We looked at each other and counted down: three, two, one, go! Then we kicked in the door!

The scene was as heartrending as expected. Baby bears, malnourished still managing to crowd their cage. "Too late!" cried the decrepit witch, releasing the cord. An arrow flew, pinning the cage to the wall as it dropped. I felled the witch with buckshot. A happy ending after all.
