Night Owls

Jerry glanced down at the photograph in his hand, then back up again at the woman sitting alone at the back of the cafe.

The woman was distracted by something on her phone. Jerry could tell only be the hair that this woman was Helen Patrick, his next target.

All at once a blinding light coursed through the space. Jerry and the woman froze. And then a creature appeared, seemingly from the air itself.

Its spine cracked unnaturally. It looked up at the two with a dazed expression. Then, its eyes widened. “I’m free!” It shouted. Then it disappeared. Jerry looked at the woman. “This can’t be good.”
