Night Owls

Jerry glanced down at the photograph in his hand, then back up again at the woman sitting alone at the back of the cafe.

She seemed off in her own little world; she would stare off into space, only to snap back with a little smile and feverishly scribbling something in her notebook. She didn’t even notice me. Or anyone, for that matter.

All at once a blinding light coursed through the space. Jerry and the woman froze. And then a creature appeared, seemingly from the air itself.

I spoke up; “Hello there, my name is Sean, I noticed you writing over here and I couldn’t help my curiosity. I -“ She stood up and briskly walked out the door, without a single word. I would never know now who she was.”
