An ageless woman walked briskly up to a coffee bar and ordered a drink in very few words. Her name was Penelope and she was draped, head to toe, in gilded paisley.
She was feeling self conscious. The especially garish outfit was due to her imminent arrival at her first renaissance fair. The coffee, of course, wasn't for her. It was for her steed, Jeff, cloaked in fur, waiting for her in the parking lot.
Jeff had been cranky since they met up, likely due to the children’s sized horse costume. A pretty strange first date, she thought. Definitely memorable. “Thanks for the ale sweet maiden” he said as she handed him the coffee. This renaissance fair going to be the end of her.
Jeff and Penelope’s awkward silence was mercifully interrupted by a barrage of trumpet blasts off in the distance. Jeff tugged at the bottom of his horse costume and ceremoniously bowed toward Penelope, “shall we partake in the festivities?” Penelope searched for words.
“I must use yee toilet, my liege” she said and snuck out. Outside she saw a familiar face, hidden behind a fake beard and some off-brand wizard tunic. “DAD??” “Time to go, Penny” he said. “You forgot your medication and your brother doesn’t like it when you call him Jeff.”
