Night Owls

Jerry glanced down at the photograph in his hand, then back up again at the woman sitting alone at the back of the cafe.

It was definitely her, though she had dyed her hair black since the photo was taken, and she had covered up the tattoo on her arm by wearing long sleeves.

All at once a blinding light coursed through the space. Jerry and the woman froze. And then a creature appeared, seemingly from the air itself.

It lashed out with clawed hands and grabbed the woman around her neck. She scarcely had time to scream before her body was violently crushed. Jerry reacted a split second later by raising his gun. "No more innocents are dying today." He pulled the trigger.
