Night Owls

Jerry glanced down at the photograph in his hand, then back up again at the woman sitting alone at the back of the cafe.

The woman's long, dark hair was pulled into a tight ponytail, and a pair of fashionable black-framed glasses were perched on her nose. She sipped her coffee and stared out the window at the rainy Seattle morning.

All at once a blinding light coursed through the space. Jerry and the woman froze. And then a creature appeared, seemingly from the air itself.

He was dressed all in a silver and blue uniform that covered him head to toe. There was a large symbol emblazoned on the chest that was shaped like a star. The woman turned to face the creature, and her mouth opened slightly. "I'm the Silver Surfer," he announced.
