Night Owls

Jerry glanced down at the photograph in his hand, then back up again at the woman sitting alone at the back of the cafe.

He could see her just vaguely, courtesy of him forgetting his specs at home. Regardless of that, he could still make out that the woman was wearing a white cardigan and that she was slightly bent towards the table to reach the book that she was completely engrossed in.

All at once a blinding light coursed through the space. Jerry and the woman froze. And then a creature appeared, seemingly from the air itself.

They both were startled and the woman screamed out of terror. Jerry knew it was just seconds before their souls would be snatched away from them by the grotesque monster in front of them. He looked at the woman and simply smiled, a minute later, they both succumbed to death.
