Night Owls

Jerry glanced down at the photograph in his hand, then back up again at the woman sitting alone at the back of the cafe.

She is holding a novel in her hand, taking a sip of coffee occasionally. To his surprise, she looks exactly the same as she was 20 years ago.

All at once a blinding light coursed through the space. Jerry and the woman froze. And then a creature appeared, seemingly from the air itself.

It slices her in half instantly. With a loud scream, blood is shed everywhere. Jerry squeezes his eyes shut in terror ... until there is a faint breeze upon his face. As Jerry opens his eyes, a pair of blood-red eyes is staring at him, just as the woman did 20 years ago.
