Night Owls

Jerry glanced down at the photograph in his hand, then back up again at the woman sitting alone at the back of the cafe.

Jerry sat there in shock. He rubbed his eyes and when he opened them again they widened. He couldn't believe that his long lost wife was sitting just across the room. He didn't know what to do.

All at once a blinding light coursed through the space. Jerry and the woman froze. And then a creature appeared, seemingly from the air itself.

The creature took the woman's hand and said "You can't return to the human realm. It's not safe for you." The woman made eye contact with Jerry and mouthed "I'm sorry." The woman and the creature vanish into thin air. Then he woke up.
