Night Owls

Jerry glanced down at the photograph in his hand, then back up again at the woman sitting alone at the back of the cafe.

She looked nothing like the photo, though she was beautiful too. Beautiful in a different way, and he thought for a moment about saying something to her.

All at once a blinding light coursed through the space. Jerry and the woman froze. And then a creature appeared, seemingly from the air itself.

The creature was a carbon copy of the woman in front of him. He shook his head to try and shake off the surprise, but the creature did not leave.
