Night Owls

Jerry glanced down at the photograph in his hand, then back up again at the woman sitting alone at the back of the cafe.

He stood up from the corner booth he had been sitting in for the past three hours awaiting the woman’s arrival and slowly walked over to her.

All at once a blinding light coursed through the space. Jerry and the woman froze. And then a creature appeared, seemingly from the air itself.

The creature scooped the woman up with one motion and flew away with her into the night. All Jerry could do was watch.
