Night Owls

Jerry glanced down at the photograph in his hand, then back up again at the woman sitting alone at the back of the cafe.

He stares through the window and takes a deep breath. The coffee was getting cold. As he was contemplating whether to ask the waitress to warm it up.

All at once a blinding light coursed through the space. Jerry and the woman froze. And then a creature appeared, seemingly from the air itself.

Show yourself! It exclaimed. The voice caused tremors shockwaves through the ground. The two humans looked at each other, and touched their foreheads.
