Night Owls

Jerry glanced down at the photograph in his hand, then back up again at the woman sitting alone at the back of the cafe.

They looked nothing alike. Jerry looked at the picture again. He paused. He guffawed. Once again, he had been played.

All at once a blinding light coursed through the space. Jerry and the woman froze. And then a creature appeared, seemingly from the air itself.

Jerry and the woman looked at each other, confused. Another of those stupid creatures? they seemed to be asking each other. They were trapped in a loop.
