It was a normal day. Me, Rose, was just walking back to school. The wind bowed fast and I was about to be late. I was halfway there when I heard loud screams. These screams were very loud and started to make me worry. I then saw a fire, and people fighting with knifes.

Oh. It's just the drama club again. 
I watched as one kid stabbed another with a wooden dagger and rolled my eyes at the phony scream the "victim" gave as he flopped to the floor. But what was with that fire? No one else seemed to notice it, and it was way to real to be a prop.

Black smoked filled the room as the flames slowly crept toward the victim, now lifeless on the floor. The murderer covered his face and silently disappeared into the smoke as the flame took center stage in full brilliance and encircled the victim.

Just when the situation looked completely hopeless, a loud rushing was heard. A giant wave crashed in, quenching the fire. The victim floated on the rising tide, face up towards the sun. The waves were alive with jumping fish.

The victim sighed a breath of relief, mixed with a sense of surprise. Where did this wave come from? As the water receded he heard a loud boom. "Your prayers have been answered, young one." The god Poseidon descended before the victim and shook his hand. "Come, Olympus awaits."

First I thought I was blind but noticed that my surrounding was completely black. Suddenly a door in front of me was being opened. Confused I stumbled forward into the light. I heard a crowd and a loud voice from above yelled. "Welcome all, this will be a fight to the death"!

The only reason I considered the possibility of being blinded was because I was hit by a truck five minutes ago. Despite this, I was in the middle of a Roman arena with a massive crowd. Before I could think I was ambushed and a spear was to my throat. 'Mercy me!' I yelled.

‘Mercy?’ Spat the great hulk of a gladiator, looming above me. ‘You expect me to be merciful after what you did to my brother? No, I’m going to make this nice and slow for you.’ With the last few words he ground the tip of his spear against my throat.

No, I don’t want to die like this, with shame! There’s no point of asking for mercy now. If I’m going to die.. I would die holding my sword, fighting! “I dragged myself away from the spear and with a quick move I picked up my sword. I coughed, I’m tired, but that won’t stop me!”

I got a burst of adrenaline & swung my sword at my sworn enemy's chest, slashing him. His eyes widened, surprised. "That's what you get for killing my brother," I shouted. But then I collapsed from my own wounds. We both lay on the ground, motionless, as the grim reaper arrived.

Soon I felt a familiar dark mist begin overtaking my body while chains pulled me down into the earth. As I struggled to resist, a deep voice from the mist grumbled, “One more, then no more.” The reaper suddenly appeared, swiped his scythe to break the chains, then vanished.

I knew this was it, my last chance at life. I walked away from all my troubles, and went somewhere warm. I spend my days fishing and my nights learning the harmonica. It was a good life. Six months later I was struck in the head by a plum-sized meteorite and died instantly.

It’s like they have… more life. Like the heavens came alive and all the angels sang and danced. Perhaps the stars are angels who watch over us.

It was a comforting thought & I held on to it for years. I passed the idea on to my daughter & she onto her daughter & so on & so on. On my 101st birthday, my family gathered to celebrate, gifting me with a gown upon which each member has stitched a star. I wept as I tried it on.

I stood, resplendent in my starry robe. I heard a funky bass line, then a wicked kick drum. My grandchildren had formed up a family band, and they were tearing up a rendition of Sly and the Family Stone’s “Everybody is a Star”.

Something terrifying about having prodigies for children. My boy wasn’t anything too special. But everyone of his kids seemed to have come out the womb looking for a vinyl record to chew on. Souls older than even mine.

There was a talent search coming to the area. They recognized this opportunity for what it was, a chance, to grow through music as a family-a family band. They performed and won! They spend the rest of the year touring the country, impressing all with their sweet tunes.
