Sam was excited to have dinner at Tom's. They'd had a few dates with sparks, but this was the 1st time he was spending time at the other's house. Tom welcomed Sam in. It was a clean flat, smelled nice. But curiously every chair & table—even the TV stand—was cheap patio furniture.

“Here, take a poncho,” Tom said, “and I’ll give you a tour of the place. I got a great deal on rent, but there’s a catch.”

“There’s a room that’s locked. I didn’t care, but one night I heard sounds in there — footsteps and the sound of something ripping, like paper. It’s one thing if my landlord is storing some boxes, but… boxes and books don’t have feet. I called the landlord the next morning and

he told me not to worry about it. He'd take care of everything. So I didn't. I went back making craft puddings and artisanal cake frosting, macermay lamp cozies and ornamental holiday ninja stars. You know, the usual. But then, that night, I saw an exterminator truck pull up. It

had a weird logo on the side. Instead of the usual mouse or cockroach, there was a green humanoid. What kind of exterminator was that? What was going on next door? I abandoned my baking and decorating and crept out to peek through the fence. I saw shadowy movement in the house.
