Night Owls

Jerry glanced down at the photograph in his hand, then back up again at the woman sitting alone at the back of the cafe.

He smiled and put the photograph back into his coat and began walking towards the woman. She looked lost in the book she had in her hands as if she was imagining everything before her eyes. She looked exactly how Jerry remembered her, would she remember him?

All at once a blinding light coursed through the space. Jerry and the woman froze. And then a creature appeared, seemingly from the air itself.

Jerry knew that in order to see her again he’d have to sacrifice himself in order to save her and keep the universe at balance. He looked at her and smiled as he felt the creature whip him off his feet by his arms and took him into the blinding light once again.She was left alone
